In the last edition of Soule Search Joanne Sawhill Griffin and Andrew Mcillvaine were awaiting the YDNA results which they hoped would prove (or disprove) the relationship of the Sawhills to the Sauls of either Lancashire or of Ireland. Andrew writes:
The initial DNA analysis has shown some promise, but no direct matches in the existing DNA databases. We are looking for a traceable common ancestor between 8 and 12 generations back (between 1650-1750), and endeavouring to determine how much DNA variation is reasonable for that time period. We are setting up a Sawhill Family tree DNA project, and asking all who might be related to join, including anyone associated with the Sole Society. It is still our hypothesis that the solution to the origins of the Sawhill name lies in the Sauls of England and Ireland
