We were very pleased to be able to have the 2022 AGM face-to-face after the Interregnum of the Covid years. It really makes a difference for members to be physically present, and thank you to all those who made the effort to meet us again in High Wycombe. We were delighted to welcome four members who haven’t attended one of our Annual Gatherings before and we hope to see them next year.
This year we have had to say goodbye to two long-standing Sole Society committee members, Ian Sewell and Bob Sheldon.
Ian joined the committee in 2003 and has been Sewell surname co-ordinator for a number of years, as well as being a past chairman. We are sorry to lose him and thank him for his hard work on the committee especially with regard to Sewell research. Please see Tony’s piece on the previous page about plans for the Sewell research going forward.
It seems impossible to think that Bob Sheldon is retiring as the Sole Society membership secretary as he has been member of the committee since 1994/1995. He was also a research co-ordinator for the Kent Soles. But reluctantly we have to say goodbye. Bob’s meticulous analysis of our membership data, geographically, numerically and financially has been invaluable to the Society, and we thank him most sincerely for this conscientious work over many years.
We are grateful to Carol and John Saul for taking over his role.
