John Slaughter, our Research Co-ordinator for the Saul surname wrote in an email to me that he had looked at the Saul GRO death indexes for the period 1866-1900 and had found a total of 1361 deaths. A quick analysis of the age at death of those entries revealed that 349 did not reach the age of one (over 25%), and 537 did not reach the age of five (nearly 40%), quite staggering numbers.
