My son and his girlfriend Jen have just moved into their first house in Cardiff. They had been told that the house had been built in the 1910s.
I suggested to Jen that we look to see who was living in the house in the 1921 census. Jen has asked that I don’t include the address and surname of the family she found.
Living in the house in 1921 we found an Albert (39, born London, Brixton), his wife Amy (34) and son Ronald (10). Both Amy and Ronald were born in Northampton and in 1911 we found the family living in Northampton.
Going backwards, we have traced Albert and his parents and grandparents in the previous censuses. Unfortunately going forward we can’t find the occupants of the house on the 1939 register, although the addresses for that area are very much out of order so at some point we may get time to go through the book again and find them.
We also spent some time looking at the descendants of Ronald and have identified possible grandchildren. Jen does not want to contact them.
Some of the houses in the road were built at the time of the 1911 census and Jen is now looking at who lived there then. She seems to be hooked on family history but relating to who lived in the house they now own.
