Annual Gathering and AGM
I am pleased to say that our Annual Gathering and AGM, which we held on zoom in October, was very successful. First we had our speaker, John Titterton, who described the two types of DNA, that from the Y-chromosome and autosomal DNA (see opposite for a bit more information on these). He then went on to explain how he had used autosomal DNA to solve a couple of questions in his wider family tree. The AGM was then held with the officers giving reports where appropriate. (I gave my usual plea for more articles!), and the committee re-elected. The minutes will be circulated and approved at the next AGM. It was agreed that the committee will discuss the possibility of future online meetings.
DNA
I’d like to bring your attention to the push by the society to use DNA to help with our research. If you have had your DNA tested we would be grateful if you would be willing to share it with the society. You will see on page 14 how Linda Butler has used DNA to solve a long standing problem in her husband’s tree. So it does work!
Journal
Please do consider writing an article for the journal. I am grateful to Peregrine Solly and Richard Saul who have provided me with many articles recently, but I can see that they soon will run out of material! If I don’t get articles, I can’t put a journal together. If you even just send me an idea I can help you with developing it.
