Are we as Strong in a Crisis?

In the Surrey Advertiser of April 17th there was an article which asked if the current generation was as ‘strong’ in a crisis as those living through the Second World War, obviously in relation to the Covid-19 crisis.
To find out the answer they had interviewed two people who were alive in the war. One recalled that her family took in two evacuee children from near Croydon who were called Christine and Doreen Scholes. She tells how all the children were taken to the Drill Hall and stood on the stage and the local mothers went to the hall and chose the children they wanted. She remembered how, if the were dirty or ill-kempt they weren’t wanted and would be left till last to be chosen. Scholes is one of our related surnames
