I corresponded with Chas Charles-Dunne by email following his email about the Stevington Salle brass which appeared in the last journal. This was to see whether I could get an article (or two, I have no shame!) from his work on the Sewell Manor of Bedfordshire. He wrote:
On another subject all together, heraldry has been my ‘thing’ for over sixty years. I have drawn the coats of arms of –
Saul/Sall/Salle- 10 shields
Solley – 1 shield
Sewell/Seewell/Sewall – 4 shields
Sole – 4 shields
All taken from the General Armory.
And shortly afterwards he sent me an example, which is shown below and is the shield is of the Sewell family of Essex and was drawn by Chas from the following information in the General Armory:
