Eli (aka Ted) SOLE (1876-1938) and his wife

Louise (nee STEEL 1871-1959)

Eli was descended from Edward Sole and Mercy Chittenden of Thanet in Kent, England. From the records it seems that he was "a jack of all trades" with his occupation being given at various times as: page boy, cycle engineer, insurance agent, railway porter, general labourer and photographic agent. He was also said to have driven the horse-drawn bathing machines on Margate beach. He served in the army during the First World War in the East Kent Regiment and then in the Royal Engineers.

He married Grace Steel on 19th September 1898 at the Thanet Register Office. Grace is reported to have been an accomplished singer and pianist - she used to play the background music for silent films at the Margate cinema.
