Gentlemans Magazine of October 1825 under heading ‘Account of Merton Church Norfolk’:

On a Monument of white marble:

"Near this place are interred the remains of Hardwick Sewell, Esquire, of Henny in the County of Essex, whose easy temper and modest disposition agreed not with the tumults of a public life, nor courted the empty  honesty of popular applause; the influence of his virtues was confined to a more contracted, tho' not less noble sphere. He wish't not to be great, but good.

By principle religious, tender to relations constant in his friendship, humane, generous, and benevolent; after having suffer'd the severest torments that the cruellest distemper could inflict, he dyed of the Small Pox on the 24th day of November, 1742 in his 27th year of his age."

Postscript from Brian Sewell:  Hardwick is one of Glennis' distant ancestors. Hardwick was engaged to a "Katherine de Grey of Norfolk" at the time of his death. Nothing is known about her. Merton is 38 miles from Great Henny, the place of Hardwick's baptism & burial.
