Yorkshire Births, Marriages & Deaths

John Amos has pointed out a useful site: www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk

Although the indexes are not yet complete for all years and districts, the database will eventually cover Yorkshire births, marriages and deaths for the years 1837 to 1950.

Parish Locator and Old Bailey Online

Brian Sewell has told us about:

Parish Locator allows you to locate pre-1837 parishes, or produce a list or plot of parishes within a radius you determine, the distance between 2 parishes, etc. It is worthwhile downloading and reading the manual. It was mentioned in the April Family Tree Magazine

Downloadable from: www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ParLoc.htm

Old Bailey online is a new site which will expand with time. I think it is a well organised site with a good index which leads to loads of information, some of it quite entertaining: www.oldbaileyonline.org

Family History Online

From the FFHS

This website has been established to publish online records compiled by Family History Societies. It currently holds over 10 million records which you can search for extremely modest fees. They include indexes (and, in some cases, further details of the entries) for: baptisms, marriages and burials; monumental inscriptions; and census returns for the counties of England and Wales.

You can make an initial search free of charge, to find out the records we hold that may be of interest to you. The amount you then pay to view them depends on how much information they contain - i.e. how useful they may be:

Comments received on the Sole Society CD-ROM

“I very much appreciate the effort that the Society has gone to…... I have already found some interesting information in the Wills. Cheers,” Les Saul

“With reference to your comments in Soul Search asking for reaction to the Saul CD, I am absolutely delighted! ……. the CD really made a huge difference, and I now have confident links back to 1650 - or at least as confident as the earlier data is itself. Regards,” Peter Saul

“Congratulations on the magnificent achievement,” Don Steel

“I had to write and tell you I got the disk and it's truly wonderful!!  It is so well done…..Thanks so much.” Joan Verdoorn
