A relative has recently died in the States; Mrs Charlene LEHMAN (nee SOLE) died on 2nd August 2004 in hospital at Iowa City.

Charlene was a founder member of The Sole Society holding membership No 9. She was 60 in February and had retired from her work as a librarian at the Iowa University. She underwent a bone marrow transplant earlier this year and had been making satisfactory progress until further hospital treatment became necessary.

Charlene and her husband Bob had no children. Charlene's grandfather SOLE emigrated to the USA in 1885 from Little Downham in Cambridgeshire and farmed successfully in Nebraska. He was the son of my great grandfather SOLE's younger brother.
