JOHN E.W. (Bill) SOLES 1914 - 2007
by Fred Sole
This obituary was originally published in the April 2008 edition of Soul Search, the journal of The Sole Society
BILL SOLES was a founder member of the Sole Society, (member number 20) having previously been a correspondent of Don Steel regarding the SOLE / SOLES surname. He did a lot of work helping me with the original gathering of information for our research databases and he was a frequent contributor to our journal.
A committee member for some years, until failing hearing made travelling and attending too difficult, Bill also helped with the organising of two of our annual gatherings at Nuneaton.
Bill’s other interest was bee keeping and he was a reliable source of quality honey !
No doubt the loss of his wife Ruby in March last year made his last months difficult, but an early Christmas card (sent because he had to go into hospital “for a week or two” and might not get them posted in time) said that he expected to “be recovered and back home shortly”.
I was shocked therefore to get a message from his daughter early in the New Year to say that he had passed away on 22 November 2007.
Bill has left three children and eight grandchildren and our condolences go to all of them at this sad time.
