SOLLEY Co-ordinator's Report December 2001

By Bob Solly

After the listing of the family chart of Thomas Solley was published in the last journal both Lynne Burlingham and Keith Parry both pointed out that there were some errors and these have now been corrected on the database.

This show the importance of members’ contributions as the information has been extracted from a number of sources, including handwritten family trees, wills and books (such as Ridlon) as well as official documents. There is always the chance of error either in the original extractions or indeed the input information onto the computer.

Any updates to family trees or information from new members are always welcome. We also appreciate the assistance of other name co-ordinators, such as Bob Sheldon, who always extract Solley information whilst working on their own research.

The copying of GRO indexes onto computer from the handwritten records continues with births and marriages being recorded up to 1900 – about 1,600 names.

As they are in spreadsheet form, it is now possible to sort the records into registration districts in the first instance to try and establish new family groupings
