SOLLEY Co-ordinator's Report - July 2000

By Bob Solly

No new members with Solley interests have joined during the last quarter. Because of work pressures I have been unable to commit very much time to working on our database of Solley names.

We have received a copy of the Gandy index of Solley marriages for Kent and, of the total 65 marriages listed, about 30 were not on our records. These have now been added and a number do immediately increase our knowledge - we are still looking for those elusive links which may join some of the family trees that we have already built. The most difficult period to make these assimilations is when the Solley families were almost all in the village of Ash and Wingham (from 1600 to 1750). The records are very well kept for the parish and the local history society has done tremendous work in sorting the families out. The additional information from wills and other records fills in many of the gaps.

Any assistance from interested parties in recording individual births and marriages (already extracted manually from the Registrar's records) into a computer format will be appreciated.
