SOLLEY Co-ordinator's Report August 2003
By Bob Solly
It has been a busy time workwise and I have not been able to progress with many new records. However, I now have information from the Family Records Centre wills index from 1858 to 1917 extracted and summarised, but not yet checked.
Some of the messages received in recent months are detailed below:
From: Patrick Szyndel Subject: Noreen Mary Elenor Solly-Flood
My Father married Noreen who is the only daughter of Major General Arthur Solly-Flood. She died in November 1999. My Father died in 1990. So the Major's line ended with her. Regards Paddy Szyndel
From: Sherrie Solley-Meyers Subject: Solley's in Arkansas USA
I have done a great deal of research on the Solley's in America. I would like to know if your organization has any information on the branch of our tree that came to American in the late 1600's to early 1700's. From what I have discovered there were 3 brothers who came to the New England colonies.
Their names were Thomas, Isaac and William. I have also found that 2 Solleys fought with William the Conquer at the battle of Hastings 1066. I need to be able to find the evidence that supports our leap across the pond.
From: Mrs Pat Mills Subject: Richborough
I am researching the name of Chandler who lived at Castle farmhouse Richborough. We have connections to the Solley family somewhere I believe. I see Thomas Solley lived in the farmhouse in ? 1700s. Is there information on this farmhouse. On Thomas Solley and Elizabeth details it mentions Tithe map. I have only been researching a short time and mainly part-time. As I now have more time to spare I am looking for further details. Thanks for any help you can give. First names on my tree are Giles Chandler m Hannah Quelch.
From Tanya Little in New Zealand Subject: Solly Ancestors
I am trying to research my family tree. I wrote to two Solly's in Canterbury and one, Patrick replied and now I await his reply. He is distantly related to me. I wonder if there are any others out there who can help me in my research.
I am looking for information about Frederick Solly and his family who lived at 49 St Peters Grove in 1920 when my Nan was born in 1920. Her Mothers name was Jessie and her surname may have been Thorper, although it is a little unclear on the birth certificate. Nan was born on 4 august 1920 and was Florence Jessica Solly and later married Alfred Souto.
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated
One of our Sole co-ordinators, Bob Sheldon, has kindly volunteered to take over as membership secretary, so all correspondence and payments relating to your subscriptions should now be sent direct to him.
Work continues with the issue of our Sole CD to members with Sole interests. Almost all our current membership are taking advantage of this CD and we hope they will not only be able to use the information contained therein, but also understand the supreme efforts of the co-ordinators and committee in putting together such comprehensive details.
Our annual gathering will be on 12 October this year at Cobham in Surrey. We hope that you will be able to attend, as this is the only opportunity of meeting all those interested in our names. It is always a very enjoyable day.
