SOLE Co-ordinator's Report June 1992
By Don Steel
My Early Researches
My researches into the Sole family of Bedfordshire started in 1953 when 1 discovered that I was descended from William Kitchener of Arlesey and Frances Sole.
Parish register searches showed that Frances was baptised in Henlow, Beds in 1802, the daughter of Gregory and Ann Sole. Gregory's burial entry in 1858 indicated that he was born around 1772-3. There my researches ground to a halt.
I investigated Henlow and nearby Clifton where the younger children were baptised, Westoning where he was in 1841, Bozeat, Northants, where he died and various other Bedfordshire parishes, all to no avail. Years later I was contacted by a third cousin, Anna Pye, who had fared no better than I. Although I had SOLE entered in various genealogical directories and from time to time corresponded with someone interested in some other Sole family, I lacked the time for an all-out attack on Gregory's origins, concentrated on other ancestral families, and my interest dwindled.
In the remainder of this report, Don described the various sources of information available to the Sole Society.
